Fox to Queenstown

Things were warming up as packed and left Fox on our journey to Queenstown.

I'm kind of running out of adjectives for the NZ landscape so,  if I tell you the drive down was through some stunning scenery,  try to think of it as really really stunning and then some.  The bottom left hand corner of South Island is a world heritage site,  inside that area are loads of national parks and and scenic reserves,  So stunning kind of covers it.

We drove down the coast, then up through the Mount Aspiring National Park, then along the side of Lake Wanaka,  then lake Hawea and on to the town with one too many 'A's - Wanaka.  This sits in a lovely spot by the lake and looks like a great place to stay.

Then it was on, along the gorge road past the bungy jumpers and down to Queenstown.  When we opened the car door,  the wave of heat really hit us.  To simulate a similar effect - put the oven on full blast then after 20 minutes open the door and sit in fron of it.  Yup - summer is here,

Its difficult to state the shock this is to our systems.  It wasn't that long ago that we were in 14 degrees with rain in Kaikoura,  now we are in 28 degrees of blazing sun.  We check in to our suite - which is very nice but has no air-con when we could really do with some!
Then it's off for a walk through Queensland Gardens to the town and then on to the steamer for a chance to relax and cool down.

Once back we walked round the town to find something that was vegetarian for Maria to eat. I had predicted that Queenstown should be be the best place so far as it seems full of restaurants and people from around the world, some of whom must also not eat meat. How wrong was I....... We eventually settled on a mexican restaurant which gave Maria 3 choices of meal, but that also completely messed up our order so we got most of it free - which was nice.
